Singapore tops ‘most competitive nations’ list

It’s official — Singapore is now the world’s most competitive nation.

In the latest edition of the World Competitiveness Yearbook released by the Lausanne-based Institute for Management Development (IMD), Singapore dethroned the United States from its 16-year reign at the top. Hong Kong comes in a close second after the Lion City.

The yearbook is widely regarded to be the most updated and comprehensive ranking of the management of governments, businesses, people and infrastructure in industrialised and emerging nations. 58 key countries are assessed based on 320 different criteria including economic performance, government and business efficiency, exports, level of corruption and infrastructure.

Under business efficiency, it listed key criteria such as productivity, labour market, finance, management practices as well as attitudes and values.

Switzerland, Australia, Sweden, Canada, Taiwan, Norway and Malaysia make up the Top 10.

I was curious how Singapore make it to the top. Comparing with the US, Singapore is just a red dot. If I would compare the management of Singapore with the US, Singapore tends to use a tradition way while the US uses the modern way. Traditional way as in the jobs are stable and inflexible. Modern way as in the jobs are dynamic and flexible. So I think Singapore will not win the US when the US settle down.

What can you do? Pick 5 actions for the world!

Pick 5 International! Being an environmentalist means different things in different places. By choosing five or more of these actions and sharing your stories, you CAN make a positive difference for the environment. Join with others around the world today to take the small actions that will add up to make the biggest difference.

So I will pick five too.

1. Save energy at home. Choose energy-saving appliances if they are available. Look for Energy Star!

2. Find alternate ways to reduce use of diesel an other fuels for transportation, production and energy.

3. Use only the water you need, and reuse when possible.

4. Dispose of solid of liquid wastes and medications safely.

5. Use human powered modes of transportation to get from place to place! Walk, jog, skip, ride a bike instead.

These are the choices I've made. The world will be saved if these picks are done by everybody. The Earth's temperature will decrease. THE ICE IS MELTING ON THE NORTH AND SOUTH. DROWN TO DEATH? NOT ME! I am sure you wouldn't want to die by drowning. So off your COMPUTERS, LAMPS, AIR-CONS AND TELEVISIONS IF YOU CAN! This is because tons of fuels and coals are burnt to produce all the energies for your electrical appliances.

There are some picks on water too. Water is precious and expensive. Other than drinking, water can be used for hygienic purposes. Water can also be used for manufacturing purposes.

So i hope you will learn something from my post. THE EARTH IS YOURS TO SAVE.
